Criticism and Denunciation in Three Novels by Jorge Luis Oviedo

Resumen: En este artículo se analizan las novelas La gloria del muerto (1987), La Turca (1988) y Como mi general no hay dos (1990), del hondureño Jorge Luis Oviedo. El análisis se centra en los diferentes medios empleados por el autor para criticar y denunciar. La gloria del muerto utiliza, sobre todo, la intertextualidad y la interdiscursividad para construir una imagen del tirano, traerla al presente y someterla a rebajamiento. En La Turca hay un manejo particular del cuerpo grotesco dirigido a la crítica del colonialismo español, el imperialismo yanqui y la alienación identitaria. Mientras que en Como mi general no hay dos se vuelve a encontrar la interdiscursividad acompañada con el recurso de la elegía paródica, lo cual produce, nuevamente, un destronamiento del tirano difunto.

Abstract: In this paper, the author analyzes the novels La gloria del muerto (1987), La Turca (1988) and Como mi general no hay dos (1990), by the Honduran Jorge Luis Oviedo. The analysis is centered in the different means employed by the author to criticize and denounce. Above all, La gloria del muerto uses intertextuality and interdiscursivity to construct an image of the tyrant, bringing it to the present and subjecting it to abasement. In La Turca, there is a particular manipulation of the grotesque body addressing the critique of Spanish Colonialism, Yankee Imperialism and the alienation of identity. At the same time, in Como mi general no hay dos we find again the strategy of interdiscursivity accompanied by parodic elegy, which produces the dethronement of the deceased tyrant.
