Abstract: This article analyzes how identity and humor are portrayed as fluid concepts in the Salvadoran film Sobreviviendo Guazapa (2008), directed by Roberto Dávila. The film emphasizes the transformative nature of the protagonists’ identities, shaped by the role of space (in this case, a forest) and social circumstances. It explores the friendship and trust that develop between the guerrillero and the soldier when they find themselves separated from their respective groups. This ongoing transformation in their identities leads to shifts in their perspectives and relationships. Conversely, humor, as a narrative strategy, actively engages the viewer by subverting the seriousness typically associated with war films.
