Resumen: El presente artículo analiza el uso representativo y significativo del volcán en la novela Cenizas de Izalco y en algunos poemas de la escritora nicaragüense-salvadoreña Claribel Alegría. Empleando el modelo de signo de Peirce, se lleva a cabo un estudio semiótico del uso de este símbolo en la obra de Alegría con la finalidad de mostrar el vínculo que existe entre el volcán y la lucha social en Centroamérica.o.

Abstract: This article analyses the representative and significant use of the volcano in the novel Cenizas de Izalco and some poems of the Nicaraguan-Salvadoran writer Claribel Alegría. Through a semiotic study using Peirce’s Triadic Model, this paper examines and interprets the use of this symbol in Alegría’s work with the purpose of showing the link between the volcano eruption and the arousal of Central America’s social struggles.
