This article explores the narrative interplay between illustrations of corporality, emotions and female experiences of violence in the context of the Trujillo dictatorship in Dominican-American novel writing. By focusing on the two novels In The Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez and The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz the article analyzes negative emotions such as anger and fear expressed by female protagonists as bodily performed acts of subaltern identities and self-perceptions.
